Leaders, you give so much of yourselves in serving your groups - we want to lift YOU up for a change! We pray this luncheon will be a fruitful mix of inspiration, encouragement and equipping, with ideas that will help lighten your load. There will also be ample opportunity to network with other Connecticut homeschool leaders  and explore ways that you could work together to build stronger community. We are delighted to invite internationally known homeschool speaker and author Zan Tyler to share some principles and practical applications of leadership which she has gleaned from many years as a pioneering homeschool mom and state leader. Her story is about the greatness and faithfulness of the Lord - and how he uses ordinary people to accomplish His extraordinary plans. We are excited that her husband Joe will be joining her for some of the sessions!

Zan and Joe will also be speaking together on Friday,  November 12th, 7- 9 pm at GBC in a special BONUS event we have titled “Why Homeschool?”. Zan and Joe will share on the topic of clarifying your vision for homeschooling. This Friday evening session is FREE and open to ALL homeschoolers - new, seasoned, or those considering.

Who?

This event is designed for leaders and co-leaders of faith-based co-ops, hybrid tutorial groups, informal groups, FB groups and for those being groomed for leadership. Even those who have a vision for a group that doesn’t exist quite yet!

Come Prepared…

  • To share. We will be featuring a 90 second “Group Spotlight” where a representative from each group can share a brief group bio, some highlights from the past year and perhaps challenges you are facing. Or share a vision for a group you hope to lead some day! Tip: Prepare your spotlight ahead on paper - the 90 seconds is firm!

  • To network, make new friends and meet leaders from all over the state. A directory of leader contacts will be included in your program.

  • To be blessed! We know your time is precious, so we have packed as much inspiration, practical advice, good food and fellowship (and gifts!) as we could into our time together. We trust you will find every minute worthwhile!

Developing Influence by Bringing out the Best in Others

Zan Tyler - Your ability to lead is determined by your ability to influence others. Your influence can motivate and inspire others, or it can cripple them. Join Zan as she shares principles about influence that are valuable whether you are working with children, your spouse, other homeschoolers, the media, or local officials. Also learn how to use your influence for the good of others, even when your plate is full and your time is limited.

A Powerful, Sustaining Vision for Leadership

Zan and Joe Tyler - The Tylers have been involved in homeschool leadership since 1985 at the local, state, and national levels. Whether you are creating a vision for your support group as a board of directors, or you simply want to provide clear direction for your family, the Tylers will inspire you as they share their own joys and frustrations of homeschool leadership. Zan and Joe will share tips for developing a powerful sustaining vision that encourages participation and engagement from those you are trying to serve. This session will include discussion about servant leadership and dealing with conflict, too!

Our Featured Speakers

Zan Tyler was threatened with jail when she began homeschooling in 1984. For the next eight years she fought for homeschool freedom and good legislation in SC. In 1990 she founded the South Carolina Association of Independent Home Schools and served as its president for ten years. Zan’s deepest desire is to encourage parents to raise children who love the Lord, understand their callings in life, and become active citizens who understand the freedom principles undergirding our great American heritage. In addition to traveling the globe as a popular conference speaker (along with husband Joe), she is a prolific author and frequent advocate of the benefits of homeschooling in the media. Zan considers the twenty-one-years she and her husband Joe spent homeschooling their own three children from K- 12th grade to be one of the greatest privileges of her life.

Joe Tyler has worked in the information systems industry for thirty-two years and is the project manager for Apologia Educational Ministries. In 1990, Joe was a founding board member of the South Carolina Association of Independent Home Schools (SCAIHS); he currently serves as the chairman of the SCAIHS board, and also on the board for Excelsior Academy—a large, weekly, homeschooling co-op. He and his wife Zan have been married for thirty-five years and have three children, all of whom have attended college on a variety of scholarships and have gone on to successful careers. Two are now married and homeschooling their own children. Most important to Joe and Zan is that their children continue to serve and glorify Christ in their lives.

COVID-19 Considerations:

The town of Groton has issued an indoor mask mandate for all persons beginning August 23, 2021. Groton Bible Chapel has left compliance with this mandate to TEACH’s discretion.

Jesus provides the second greatest commandment in Mark 12:31 where He says, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” As an application of this command, we ask that you not attend the Friday evening event or Leaders Luncheon if you, or members of your immediate household, have symptoms of or recent exposure to, any contagious illness. The church follows enhanced cleaning procedures between building uses and hand sanitizing stations will be made available throughout. Attendees who are more comfortable wearing a mask are welcome to do so.

As always, TEACH is committed to respecting the God-given authority of individuals to make personal and medical decisions that they believe are best for themselves or their family, and their right to keep their medical conditions and decisions private.
