SESSION 1
  (9:30 AM)

Getting Started:  What Do I Do Now? (Melanie Young) - For First Year Homeschoolers and Parents of Preschoolers
So you’ve decided to try homeschooling, but aren’t sure how or when to begin?   Whether you are starting with preschoolers and aren’t sure how or when to begin, or beginning a learning adventure with your older children, come glean from Melanie’s experience, not only as a teaching mom of 8 children, but from years of fielding calls from new homeschoolers. Learn to relax and introduce your little ones to the joy of learning in a gentle, realistic way that will prepare them to succeed academically. If you are beginning with older children, she has discovered that there are really just three things that need to be accomplished the first year in order for new families to get off to a great start and continue with confidence.

I’m Not So Sure About This (Hal Young)  - For Fathers or Those Considering Homeschooling
So your mate wants to homeschool your children, but you are full of questions, concerns and uneasiness. Will they get into college? Can they find a job? Will they have any friends? What about sports? Will we be weird? Hal has answered the concerns of hundreds of new homeschoolers and he’ll help you find out the truth and figure out what’s best for your family.

HELP! How Do I Teach this Highly Distractible Child - PART ONE* (Carol Barnier)
Can a simple 20 minute lesson drag into 2 hours? Does your little wiggler seem to fall out of his chair a great deal? Is he distracted by things others don’t even notice? Find out what you must change for this child to stay on task and learn. Instead of trying to make this child learn like most others, find the key that unlocks learning for the highly distractible child. We’ll cover how to put motion into learning, making math fun (no, really!) and how to make learning experiences that cement your child’s understanding of science, history, and language. In other words, come and learn practical tips that you can start using Monday morning. (Best for Pre-K through 6th )

SESSION 2
  (10:45 AM)

HELP! How Do I Teach this Highly Distractible Child - PART TWO* (Carol Barnier)
Continuing from Session one, come and get even more ideas to use with the highly distractible child. Nothing is repeated from the first session. Instead we’ll cover how to understand this child, how to use things around the house to create fast games, and how to give tired hands a break. We’ll cover 10 things to remember when teaching one of the toughest subjects for this child: writing. Come get a fresh injection of great ideas and a reminder of why these kids are so great. (Best for Pre-K through 6th)

Getting It All Done (Melanie Young)
Sometimes homeschooling feels like one of those plate-spinning acts and you wonder how in the world you’re going to meet everyone’s needs.  The baby needs to be changed, the toddler is playing in the toilet, one of your homeschoolers is impatiently waiting for you to help with his biology experiment, and another child says, “I can’t do anything else without you, Mom.”  Melanie Young, mother of eight, shares encouragement and ideas for how to keep all of those plates spinning at once without your life spinning out of control.  Learn how to raise independent learners, keep the household moving, and make sure the little ones get enough attention.

Entrepreneurship 101* (Hal & Sam Young) - For Young People and Their Parents
Prepare yourself and your children for the future by fostering an entrepreneurial spirit, encouraging reasonable risk taking, and inculcating financial responsibility and independence. Get practical, doable ideas for out-of-the-box jobs, freelancing, microbusinesses, and innovative small enterprises so that your children can build skills and experience when they have little to lose.

SESSION 3 - GENERAL SESSION
 (1:15 PM)

Homeschooling Is Not Enough* (Hal & Melanie Young)
Because none of it will matter if they don’t follow Christ, many homeschoolers hope and pray that because they’ve homeschooled their children will turn out all right, but unfortunately, we are seeing a number of homeschooled children turning away from God in rebellion. We can’t make our children serve Christ, but we can make sure we aren’t standing in the way! Find out about the power of delighting in your children and loving them as Christ loves us. Hear how to point them to the Savior and teach them to serve Him!

SESSION 4
 (2:30 PM)

Raising Real Men* (Hal & Melanie Young)
In spite of what the culture is telling us, boys and girls are different.  Have you ever had a war break out in the middle of history, or had a single math lesson take three hours?  Then you’re probably raising boys!  If the world seems intent on gender-bending and forcing our sons into a feminized mold, Hal and Melanie, parents of six boys, explain the Biblical way out—and a better way to turn wild little dirt lovers into strong Christian men!

Don’t Fight Your DNA*  (Carol Barnier) - For Young People
There is a push to walk and talk and sound like everyone else. Yet, God designed us differently for a reason. This talk encourages kids to stop fighting their DNA and learn to trust God as designer in creating them the way He did…with a purpose. This is a fun, even empowering talk about becoming what you were uniquely designed to become.

SESSION 5
 (3:45 PM)

Answering Your Homeschooling Questions - A Special Q&A Session with Melanie & Carol
Have you ever wanted to sit down and talk one-on-one with veteran homeschoolers who have been-there and done-that? Well now you can!  Bring your questions and glean valuable insights from Melanie Young, homeschool mom to 8 children (6 boys!), and Carol Barnier, a homeschool mom who has been challenged to develop creative yet practical teaching strategies for children who learn differently–and she has a boatload! We will be collecting question slips throughout the day and try to get through as many as we can during this session.

Homeschooling High School and Transcripts* (Hal Young)
Thoughts of high school tend to make even veteran homeschoolers shake in their boots. Come learn how to plan it, how to do it and even how to tell the rest of the world with a top notch transcript. Figure out what they need to take & how to do the classes you aren’t so sure about (or are sure you can’t!). This workshop will leave you prepared for and excited about high school at home!

SESSION 6 - COMMENCEMENT ADDRESS
 (7:00 PM)

Never Give Up—The Critical Importance of Finishing What You’ve Started (Hal & Melanie)
It’s easy to get burned out, tired and overwhelmed while homeschooling.  And as the years pass, how can we press on through the opposition of the world, the flesh, and the devil and do what we know is right? This funny, hopeful, and encouraging session looks at the importance of finishing what you’ve started and making it all the way to graduation.
